What publisher dares?

Bringing out our astronomy programme in English

We have developed, designed and published many instructive astronomy books, instruments and models over the years. Some products were made for youngsters, others for adults, but actually all of them are for 'young and old' alike! Some are of well-known formats, like books, others are really unique, like our Solar System scale model.

We sell our planispheres all over the world, from stock (standard planispheres, our own publications) and customised planispheres.

For our other products this is more difficult to accomplish, as we don't have the sales channels. for that. Our company is just too small to be able to create it. However, the possibilities of our fine, instructive products are easy to see!

WANTED: AN ACTIVE PUBLISHER!

So, we would urge any publisher in the UK, USA or other English speaking country to contact us about the possibilities of an extensive Rob Walrecht Astronomy Set, which includes all our designs. Of course publishers in still other countries, like Germany or France, are welcome as well, but making translations from English will be easier than from our lovely Dutch! Many projects like this start in English after which editions in other languages may follow.

So what do we have to offer?

Naturally, our company is best known for Planispheres, and a Rob Walrecht Astronomy Set couldn't be without it. We can provide them for any latitude, but for an Astronomy Set the number of types would probably have to limited.

Books
We have also published books, including a series of the three Enjoying books:
  • Genieten van de sterrenhemel (Enjoying the Night Sky, the introduction)
  • Genieten van het zonnestelsel (Enjoying the Solar System)
  • Genieten van het heelal (Enjoying the Universe, about stars, the Milky Way and other galaxies)
Genieten van de sterrenhemel contains much information about star charts in general, constellations and our Planispheres in particular. It also describes everything that is necessary to use our Planispheres to the full, like celestial coordinates and the time we use. It also contains a special chapter about the night sky per season: two pages of interesting facts and with wonderful pictures and instructive illustrations. It is therefore the perfect companion for the Planisphere. We have an English translation of the first chapter of the book.
Genieten van het zonnestelsel is an important book for people who use our Solar System scale model.

Posters
The illustrations Rob Walrecht made for the three books above were also used to design eight Dutch posters, which are meant for use in schools, but also appeal to adult enthusiasts.

Asronomy instruments and models
We have a very balanced programme of 'build-it-yourself' instruments and models for youngsters and schools, which of course also appeal strongly to many adult enthusiasts:
  • our oldest BIY products are the Star Wheel and the Sundial, both first published in 1986 and 1987 respectively. They are one-sheet cardboard products, very simple to make, and quite cheap, too! Our Dutch models have evolved over time but around 2002 we also published English Star Wheels for 40° and 50° N, and an English Sundial for 50° N.
  • Our Solar System scale model is really unique, as it is completely accurate in its representation of our neighbourhood. It's made in the form of cards, with general information on the objects, their size and distance to the Sun to scale, and a narrative about the subject. The first edition (2003) consisted of 16 cards, but since then so many new objects were discovered and so much of our understanding improved, that the new set-up is two sets of 16 cards. The first consists of the Sun, the eight planets and the five dwarf planets, together with a card about other stars in the vicinity. The second consists of other interesting objects and also regions of the Solar System, like the Asteroid Belt, Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud. Some asteroids and ice dwarf were added to help give the boundaries of such regions.
  • Our Astroset Moon and Planets, which consists of a Table Planetarium and an Earth-Moon model. These models/instruments are perfect for teaching people, young and old, about the movements of the Sun (or better of the Earth), Moon and planets; of the ecliptic, phases of the moon, eclipses, positions of planets (ooposion, conjunction, elongation) and more.
  • When most of these products were designed, around 2001, there were also other models and tools involved!
