New French Planisphere PLN-47F

French Planisphère now in full colour!

On this page you can read about our new Catalan planisferi, the 17th language version we made. It's star chart is printed in full colour.

But the 9th edition of our own standard French Planisphère, that we publish in the well-known two colour star chart design since 1997, is now in full colour. Since our main Dutch ‘planisfeer’ was made in full colour, I have been in doubt as to start doing the all (22!) standard planispheres (those we publish ourselves) in FC, as it means a big step which will take years to complete! Some models don’t sell as good as others, and the whole period of transition we would have models in different colour schemes. And that at a moment that we finally have reach standardisation, the older models being phased out. Even doing just the 9 English models would take years – or a lot of money.

Still, as the French planisphère is not part of a series, I thought it nice to do this and thus try the new design out. The planisphere looks nicer now, is better to use at night with a red flashlight, and may sell even better.

Improved design

When I made the new full colour design of our Dutch PLN-NL, in 2017, I decided to use more colours, particularly for deep-sky objects (objects for binoculars). But I kept using the 'old' simple symbols were simple, which are useful for the two-colour star charts: white oval lines for galaxies and a white circle with two crosses white lines inside that for globular nebulae. The 2019 (13th) edition of the PLN-NL, which has an improved upper disc (not the old red lines in the horizon opening, but in white), but came out a few months before I decided to improve the FC design even more. Sadly… By using colour I could make all objects easier to recognise and prettier.
