NEW: Astroset Moon & Planets

(in Dutch, but with English User Guide)

Two 'build-it-yourself' models,
to show the motion of the Moon and the Planets

The Astroset Maan en Planeten is a Dutch set of two models: the Earth-Moon model and the Table Planetarium. They are fun to make and use for everyone, but particularly useful to teach young people about the motion of the Moon and the planets.
This can be used perfectly by non-Dutch speakers! There is not that much text on the models themselves, and what there is was translated into English in the User Manual (see below).

Complete programme
This Astroset completed our educational programme for youngsters, which already included the Star Wheel, the Sundial, the Solar System scale model and of course our Planispheres.

We also have books and posters, only in Dutch for now, although English print-on-demand posters will come out in 2020 (there are 8 posters in our existing poster programme, with two made for children, and four new posters are in the process of being designed.

Building instructions and User Guide

The User Guide includes a list of translations for all the important text parts and names used on the models.
You can download them for free:

The models

  • The Astroset Maan en Planeten (Moon & Planets) is made to help you (better) understand the motions of the Moon and the planets.
The set consists of the Table Planetarium (Tafelplanetarium), the Earth-Moon model (Aarde-Maan model) and a few extra items. It's made up of five A3-size (ca. 30 x 42 cm) sheets of 380 gram cardboard. The DeLuxe set also contains the necessary wooden beads and 2 mm rods.
    • The Table Planetarium shows everything about the movement of the planets around the sun and their motions in the sky. You can see in which direction planets orbit the Sun and why they all move in an eastward direction against the background of the distant stars; why they sometimes move in the wrong (retrograde) direction; what the zodiac is; and what the important positions are in the planetary orbits, as seen from Earth. The Table Planetarium only shows the Sun and the four inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars (the farther planets do not add anything with resprect to the use of the planetarium).
    • The Earth-Moon model shows everything about the movement of the Moon around the Earth, why the shape of the Moon seems to change in the course of a month, and what causes Sun and Moon eclipses
